Tuesday, November 13th - O'Shea's pub on 45th St.

MikeOrr, BrianDorsey, and AdamFeuer attended... there was no pre-arranged topic or presentation, but some good discussion on Cheetah, on Zope, on other languages and their relation to Python (Smalltalk and Haskell in particular). The perennial Zope topic seems to be: when do you use Zope, and when do you use something more lightweight? In particular, WebWare, Cheetah and Quixote seem to be evolving as a lightweight, modular alternative to Zope, for people who need some of Zope's features (templating, or an application server, for instance), but don't want to get stuck in the Zope's private world.

Someone talked a bit about Haskell... WilhelmFitzpatrick also mentioned Haskell at the October meeting. HaskellLanguage is a functional progamming language that makes certain kinds of projects easier to implement... Python also has some good functional programming features, so this might be a good topic for a future meeting.

I'm probably missing some of the discussion, so folks, add your thoughts here.

A good time was had by all. I think for December's meeting, I would like to try scheduling the meeting time and place at least a week in advance, to give people time to fit it into their schedules. I think other people (MikeOrr at least!) would also like this...

To that end, I'm volunteering my house for the December meeting. --AdamFeuer
