I thought I'd start a page about synergy between Perl, Python, and Ruby. I've used all three languages, and I love them all for different reasons. Perl and Python have a long history of being associated with each other, but recently a lot of folks have felt that Ruby takes the best of both, along with a good dose of Smalltalk. I don't know enough about Ruby to switch yet, but the stuff I've seen so far is cool.
CPAN
During the August 2002 meeting, we had some guests from the PerlLanguage community attend:
A couple of the Perl guys have suggested that Python could leverage the CPAN mirror network. See PythonDoesntNeedCpan.
YAML
A fun project that has featured cooperation between developers from the three programming languages is YamlAintMarkupLanguage. The Perl, Python, and Ruby YAML implementors are moving toward using the same testing suite for all three languages. One really cool thing about our testing suite is that you get to see how all three languages represent the same data structure for each YAML example.
SEATTLE COMMUNITY
During the August 2002 meeting, we talked about getting together folks from SPUG, Seapig, and the SeattleRubyBrigade.
